Architecture
In 1550, the Albret country was elevated to the status of duchy by Henri II. This one created four presidential courts : Castelmoron d'Albret, Tartas, Nérac and Casteljaloux.
During this period, the town reached its peak and both middle-class and legal professions appeared. The magnificent half-timbered houses date back to this ostentatious era.
They were built following the rules used in the region : stone ground floor and first floor with three superimposed wooden lines looking like a St Andrew' s cross fitted with some ornamentations such as turrets or pinnacles. All these houses would date back to the first half of the XVIth century.
